Winter Oral Health Guide

Winter Oral Health Guide

We are prone to suffer from the common cold and seasonal health problems in the winter months. Here are some ways you can care for your oral health during winter:

  1. Prevention: Ulcers can easily form from cuts and blisters inside the mouth. In order to prevent this, choose high-quality toothbrushes with soft bristles, because hard bristlescan cut your gums. Also, be sure to brush slowly and diligently to avoid damaging the gums.
  2. Eat Well: During the cold season, we tend to go for warmer foods because they provide more comfort than salads and fresh fruits. If you do opt for warmer foods, make sure you don’t eliminate healthy foods that are rich in vitamins. Your daily diet should contain foods that are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E.
  3. Stay Hydrated: Compared to the hot, summer months; we tend to drink less water during winter. Avoid reducing your water intake even during the coldest months, as you need a properly hydrated body to prevent drying and chapping of the lips. In addition to drinking sufficient amounts of water, keep your lips hydrated using a protective lip balm.
  4. Seek Professional Care: In case you have been dealing with a cold sore or a mouth ulcer, consult your dentist for possible treatment options such as prescription of medications or Laser treatment. Never ignore persistent oral health issues; they can be a result of more serious health problems.
